‘Legionella’ outbreak at £1m park changing rooms in Northampton

Changing rooms at the Racecourse in Northampton, which cost £1 million to build, have been closed for the third time in five years after another outbreak of the bacteria which causes Legionnaires’ disease.

The changing rooms, which were jointly funded by the Northampton Borough Council and the Football Foundation, were officially opened by Labour Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe in July 2007 and he described them at the time as “state-of-the-art.”

Legionnaire's disease outbreak continues to spread

Auckland's Legionnaire's disease outbreak continues to spread.

Three new cases were notified over the weekend, bringing the total over the past nine weeks to 15, with one death.

'Legionella concerns' remain at Basildon hospital

The prevention and control of legionella at an Essex hospital remains a "significant concern", according to a health care watchdog.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said Basildon University Hospital had taken several measures to combat the disease, but further improvements were needed.

It said three people had acquired the disease while at the hospital in 2011.

Man who contracted Legionnaires’ disease sues Ocean City hotel for $6 million

A man who was treated for Legionnaires’ disease after an outbreak at an Ocean City hotel last year is suing the innkeeper for $6 million.

Pat Dent filed suit against Plim Plaza Hotel Wednesday in federal court in Baltimore. He and his wife are seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $1 million for loss of consortium.

Health officials said six cases of Legionnaires’ disease, including a fatal case, were confirmed in people who had stayed at the hotel.

Hotel closed over Legionnaires'

Calpe’s four star Diamante Beach hotel remained closed for cleaning this week after being identified as the source of the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease that has killed three British tourists.

A total of 16 people – 12 British and four Spanish – contracted the disease before traces of the deadly bug was identified in the 283-bedroom hotel’s plumbing system last Friday.
