Playboy mansion investigated in 'legionnaires' outbreak
14 February 2011
Dozens of guests at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion have fallen ill with suspected legionnaires’ disease.
Nearly 80 people at a conference in Santa Monica – which ended with a party at the LA hangout – came down with fever and breathing difficulties.
Four delegates have been diagnosed with legionellosis, a milder form of the disease. Some victims are blaming a fog machine at the mansion party on February 3. Delegate Ron Jackson said: “The disease lives in warm water and people were engulfed in mist.”
But Playboy spokesman Terri Thomerson said: “There is no truth in the rumour anyone caught anything at the Playboy Mansion. No Playboy staff have become ill. The DJ was in the middle of the fog and she didn’t get ill.”
The Los Angeles County Department of Health is investigating.
